CNA students at Job Corps

Academics

In addition to career training, Phoenix Job Corps also provides academic training, including basic reading and math. Courses in independent living, employability skills, and social skills are offered in order to help students transition into the workplace. We also have several academic programs to help our students achieve their full potential.

GED/High School Diploma

One of our top goals at Phoenix Job Corps is to ensure that every qualified student obtains his or her GED/high school diploma prior to leaving the center. Students who don't already have a high school diploma upon their arrival at Phoenix can enroll in our GED program.

Students may also enroll in charter high school classes taught by the School for Integrated Academics and Technologies (SIATech). To earn their high school diplomas, students must complete:

  • The science and social studies subject areas of the GED program
  • Computer-based classes in English and mathematics
  • Career technical training at Job Corps

Advanced Career Training

The Advanced Career Training (ACT) program gives students the opportunity to receive advanced education/technical training. Students in the ACT program may participate in other Job Corps center programs such as the Transportation Communications Union (TCU), the Treasure Island Advanced Culinary Arts Program, and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer(MCSE) and/or A+ Training. To qualify for the ACT program, a student must:

  • Be enrolled 180 days in Job Corps with good attendance
  • Have completed a career technical training program
  • Have a GED or high school diploma
